TOYO
WINTER TIRE GIVEN HIGHEST RATING BY AUTO ZEITUNG
With
the improvements in material and design over the last several
years, winter tires have come to rival their all-season counterparts
in performance levels and importance. As
a result, it has become a fall tradition for Europe's leading
car magazines to conduct performance tests on snow tires in preparation
for the oncoming winter.
A
recent test conducted by the leading German auto magazine Auto
Zeitung examined the safety reserves and performance of the Toyo
910, featuring improved tread design and a new compound construction,
against those of a range of tires from other manufacturers. The
910 proved to be a leader in all driving conditions, from icy
mountain roads to dry highway driving.
The tests were conducted using Volkswagen Golf with tire size 185/60TR14,
and included a wide range of evaluation standards. In addition
to snow handling characteristics, the Auto handling characteristics,
the Auto Zeitung team rated performance on wet and dry roads, as
well as other essential factors such as fuel consumption and high-speed
driving. The notable feature of the Toyo 910 was its uniform excellence
in all driving conditions. Auto Zeitung gave the tire its highest
rating for both winter and all-round driving. -

Any winter tire must be able to handle a variety of bad road
conditions, and the Toyo 910 achieved good results in all the
foul weather tests. I n the snow performance category, the
910 earned top marks for acceleration and handling, and was
acclaimed a "real winter specialist?. The test team also
praised the 910's handling in wet driving conditions. Whether
on straight sections or curves, the 910 demonstrated superb
aquaplaning characteristics.
The Auto Zeitung test team also kept in mind the often overloo ked
fad that most winter driving is done on bare, dry roads. A
good winter tire must be able to perform in normal conditions
at levels that approach those of all-season performance tires.
Once again, the 910 showed its advantages in dry course testing.
Not only did the Toyo tire display good handling and breaking,
but it also ran smoothly at speeds above 190 km/h. Finally,
all the tires were tested for fuel efficiency.
Here again, the Toyo 910 dispelled dated ideas regarding the
performance limitations of winter tires. Road resistance was
kept to a minimum, and the test Golf fitted with 910s used
only 2.5% more fuel than normal over 300 km of driving in all
conditions.
All in all, the Toyo 910 proved itself to be the perfect cure
to car drivers' winter blues.
