Tread
Compound
TOYO improved its Microbit compound and has incorporated this
technology into the OPEN COUNTRY G-02 plus tread compound
-
“P” metric sizes.
Incorporating
Lamella crystals in the tread compound helps
“vacuum” away moisture from between the tread contact
surface and the road. Removal of this water film results in
better braking and handling on ice and slippery surfaces. A
larger, harder walnut shell grain is used to improve TOYO’s
studless technology. The larger walnut shells dig into ice
and compacted snow to help provide excellent traction and braking.
Silica is incorporated
into the tread compound to help the tire retain its flexibility
in cold temperatures, a requirement for good winter traction.
Tread
Design
A unidirectional tread pattern ensures the traction level of
the OPEN COUNTRY G-02 plus is fully optimized. High
density wave sipes and saw-toothed edge blocks increase edge
gripping effect for better all-round handling in snow and on
slippery surfaces. Tread design has been optimized on LT sizes
to ensure necessary stability and load carrying requirements
are not compromised in these more severe applications. In addition,
a 2mm interlocking bridge stabilizes the tread blocks to ensure
stability under loaded conditions –
LT sizes.
Safety
A 10% wider contact area over its predecessor, the GP-4 and
large crown radius contribute to improved road contact, increasing
traction and braking on ice and compacted snow. Twin shoulder
blocks (both square and round) ensure better handling and directional
stability. Interlocking tread blocks increase stability during
braking and cornering.
Comfort
With the use of TOYO’s super computer technology
and design applications (DSOC II) TOYO has been able to
optimize the tread pattern arrangement for improved handling
and ride comfort. A variable pitch tread design contributes
to less tire noise, increasing ride comfort. A high modulus
polyester casing and high-tensile steel belts provide excellent
handling, stability and durability. Jointless bead wire
ensures excellent tire bead to rim contact, enhancing tire
uniformity and ride comfort. A rim protector protects expensive
alloy rims from damage by curbs or scratching.
